Mortgage Advice Center - Variable Rate
The standard variable rate is the most common product, although it has become less popular with the increase in other products becoming available.
The variable rate does as the name suggests. Usually changes in the Bank Of England interest rate spurs lenders to change their variable rate. This means that borrowers will see their monthly payments change accordingly. The Bank Of England Base Rate is reviewed monthly.
There is no protection for the borrower if rates increase.
